مائیکروسافٹ کی جانب سے ونڈوز ایکس پی کی سپورٹ ختم کر دی گئی ہے یعنی اب مائیکروسافٹ ونڈوز ایکس پی کے لیے کسی قسم کی کوئی اپ ڈیٹس جاری نہیں کرے گی۔ جس کے بعد ایکس پی میں دریافت ہونے والی سکیوریٹی خامیوں کو بھرنا مشکل ہو جائے گا۔ بعض لوگوں کا خیال ہے کہ ہیکرز اور وائرسز بنانے والوں نے ایکس پی میں موجود کئی خامیوں کو ابھی تک استعمال نہیں کیا۔ کیونکہ وہ چاہتے ہیں کہ مائیکروسافٹ جب ایکس پی کی سپورٹ ختم کر دے تو ان خامیوں کو استعمال کرتے ہوئے ایکس پی کے صارفین کو نشانہ بنائیں۔ اس طرح بے یارومددگار ونڈوز ایکس پی کے لیے مزاحمت کرنا بے حد مشکل ہو جائے گا۔ اسی صورت حال کے پیش نظر مائیکروسافٹ اپنے صارفین کو بارہا کہہ چکی ہے کہ وہ اپنا آپریٹنگ سسٹم اپ گریڈ کر لیں۔
ونڈوز ایکس پی صارفین کے اپ گریڈ نہ ہونے کے پیچھے دو وجوہات ہیں۔ ایک تو ان کی ایپلی کیشنز یا پروگرام جو صرف ونڈوز ایکس پی پر بہترین کام کرتے ہیں۔ دوسرا ان کے سسٹم میں نصب ہارڈ ویئر جو کہ ونڈوز سیون یا ایٹ کا بوجھ برداشت نہیں کر سکتا۔
اگر ونڈوز ایکس پی پر چلنے والے پروگرامز کی بات کی جائے تو اس کے لیے مائیکروسافٹ نے ’’ونڈوز ایکس پی موڈ‘‘ فراہم کر رکھا ہے، جس کے ذریعے ونڈوز سیون میں رہتے ہوئے ایکس پی استعمال کی جا سکتی ہے۔
جیسا کہ ہم نے ذکر کیا کہ دوسرا بڑا مسئلہ ہارڈ ویئر کا ہے۔ ونڈوز ایکس پی استعمال کرنے کی بڑی وجہ یہی ہے۔ اگر آپ کے پاس ایک ہلکے ہارڈ ویئر کی مشین ہے اور آپ اس پر ایک محفوظ آپریٹنگ سسٹم استعمال کرنا چاہتے ہیں تو آپ کو
لینکس کی طرف دیکھنا ہو گا۔
اگر لینکس پر منتقل ہونے کا سوچیں تو پہلا سوال یہی اُٹھتا ہے کہ کون سی لینکس استعمال کی جائے۔ ونڈوز ایکس پی کے صارف کو اس معاملے میں محتاط رہنے کی ضرورت ہے کیونکہ اگر ونڈوز ایکس پی سے بالکل مختلف انٹرفیس کا حامل آپریٹنگ سسٹم انسٹال کیا تو اسے قبول کرنے کے لیے کئی دن یا مہینوں درکار ہوں گے۔ اس کے علاوہ لینکس کا نام آتے ہی اکثر لوگوں کے ذہن میں بالکل ایک اجنبی سی تصویر بنتی ہے۔ ایک ایسے اجنبی آپریٹنگ سسٹم کی جس میں سب کچھ کمانڈز کے ذریعے ہوتا ہے۔ لیکن ایسا بالکل بھی نہیں ہے۔
لینکس کے کئی ایسے ورژن دستیاب ہیں جو ونڈوز آپریٹنگ سسٹم استعمال کرنے والے صارفین کو ونڈوز سے ملتا جلتا ماحول فراہم کرتے ہیں اور صارف کو ونڈوز سے لینکس کی طرف منتقل ہوتے ہوئے زیادہ اجنبیت کا احساس نہیں ہوتا۔ ایسا ہی ایک ورژن ہے لینکس منٹ.
